Ethanol plant construction 33% cheaper, more profitable and environmentally friendly

Tampa, Fl. (March 30, 2007) -- A Tampa company, Ethanol Productions, has moved to the forefront of ethanol plant building technology by re-engineering the traditional design and thus reducing the cost of building ethanol plants by one-third and cutting the construction time in half.

Ethanol Productions’ new plant design is a low-temperature, closed-loop system, which reduces water consumption by half. Water is captured and reused, eliminating any steam or odor emissions as well as the need for expensive water treatment systems.  Other construction cost savings result from elimination of conventional distillation columns, centrifuges and dryers required in old-style plants.

Profit from the sale and handling of distillers grain (DG) is dramatically improved. The cost of disposing of the six to seven pound of waste generated from every bushel of corn virtually offsets DG revenues in traditional plants. The new system captures almost 100% of the DG, eliminating waste, and creating additional sales revenue of $.25 per gallon of ethanol. Furthermore, the DG is produced in pellet form with a protein content that compares favorably to soybean meal, and can be sold as animal feed for more than twice that of the dry powder produced from a typical steam plant where high temperatures destroy most of the nutrients. Total DG revenue is more than $.70 per gallon of ethanol without any attendant cost of waste disposal.

“We will build a new, more efficient plant anywhere in the U.S. or Canada, in less than 12 months, for $1.25 per gallon,” said Jim Plautz, President of Ethanol Productions.    “This compares to $1.60 - $1.90 and two years for a conventional plant.” This new system can be sized anywhere from seven million gallons per year to 146 million gallons. It is modular and allows buyers or investors to start small and grow as demand increases or additional funding becomes available. Small units are affordable for farm co-ops and municipalities that want to fuel their own vehicles. The buyer supplies the land, permits and financing – we do the rest.”

Ethanol Productions’ mission is to license this new technology to buyers or investors throughout the United States and Canada, oversee construction and be available to help manage the new plant on an ongoing basis.  The brain behind this new process is James McCrabb, holder of numerous grain and ethanol-related patents, and an industry leader for over 30 years. McCrabb has built more than 50 farm-units in Iowa using much of this technology. McCrabb’s construction company, McCrabb Probe-A-Load, will be the general contractor. Jim Plautz, formerly with Price Waterhouse & Co Management Services and owner of several small companies, will provide project management and financial control. A Japanese investment group will provide performance bonds to guarantee completion schedules and plant performance.
